Estimated energy consumption of the top 10 countries and the European Union, and estimated energy consumption of the worldwide IT sector, in 2015. Numbers in terawatt hours. 1 TWh equals 1,000,000,000 kWh. For comparison, a TV running for approx. 10 hours uses 1 kWh.

Estimates are for 2015, except for China, South & Korea Brazil (estimates for 2016). The estimates for the IT sector are based on 2012 values. The chart is inspired by the Clicking Clean report 2017 by Greenpeace, p16.
