Holocaust Mentions in US Newspapers by Decade

The number of mentions in all US newspapers of key phrases associated with the Nazi Holocaust of Europe's Jews. The counts were normalized by percentage with the maximum set to 100 for each phrase. (The 2020s have been prorated to ten years at the current rate as of March 10, 2025.)

This chart shows very little movement in mentions in US newspapers of the most significant event of WWII--the systematic extermination of Europe's Jews by German Nazis. There is actually a decline in mentions during the 1950s, then, with the publication of Raul Hilberg's The Destruction of Europe's Jews, the mentions increase--peaking in the 1990s.
