Nigeria Upstream Gas Flare (2012 - 2024)

The chart shows a 13-year record (2012 - 2024) of gas flaring emanating from Nigeria's upstream oil and gas sector. The highest level of upstream gas flaring occurred from 2012 to 2015. Although flaring has remained substantial in Nigeria, the data suggest a reduction in upstream gas flaring during the years in focus. There was a consistent decline from 9.44 BCM in 2012 to 7.13 BCM in 2016. The years 2022 and 2023 also saw a remarkable decline, which did not last up to 2024.
