Nature Index: Location of Top 100 Academic Institutions
The Nature Index is a measure of research output based on contributions to top journals for the health and natural sciences. The publisher Springer Nature puts out the index each year.
In 2025, 48 of the top 100 academic research institutions were in China, and 33 were in the US. This is a sharp contrast to 2015, when 46 of the top institutions were in the US and only 12 were in China.
