This time I analyzed data about the median total income earned by people in Australia based on their occupation, divided according to the dominance of women and men in those jobs. I thought that income gaps still occur frequently in many occupations, including in Australia. My assumption was that male-dominated occupations generally have higher salaries compared to female-dominated occupations. I also tried to calculate how large the income gap is between men and women.
And the data shows that my assumption was correct for these median incomes. However, I was quite surprised by some outliers in the medical category such as psychiatrists, anaesthetists and surgeons. Even though the male dominance wasn't extreme, their income gap was considerably high compared to other occupations that were equal between the number of men and women.
